First elimination Dancing with the Stars

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Wow! Wow! Wow! I guess Steve Guttenberg was right – the world is a better place because of Dancing with the Stars. He was the first one that was saved from elimination. I also was very pleased to know that Shannon Elizabeth was safe too. I see her going pretty far this season.

As I predicted, Penn Jillette and Monica Seles were sent off to dance their last dance. In his usual fashion, Penn started talking about his dancing in the parking lot next week and then continued to babble on and on. Whew, glad we don’t have to hear from him again.

Monica Seles took the news with dignity and grace and appreciated her exeperience from the last 5-6 weeks. A real class act, but she can’t dance. Maybe she’ll take private dance lessons just for her gratification.

Did you see the dance act with the flying dancers? Wow! (Sorry, I didn’t mean to repeat myself) that was terrific. I think that was the highlight of the show. The bit with Cameron as Super Dancer was kinda lame, even though he is nice to look at he’s funny too. Hope they won’t make that a weekly thing. The Jimmy Kimbel’s segments are more humorous.

What was that comment from Adam Carolla about the eyebrows of one of the singers from the Jonas Brothers? I think Adam needs meds. I didn’t find it funny at all. But he is looking as though he is taking this season seriously, now if only he would keep his mouth shut he may have a chance to learn how to dance and go a bit further.

Next week the stars will learn the Tango and Jive. I wonder if Jason Taylor will be the King of Tango as well?

Until later,

Dancing with the Stars – is the world a better place?

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

Last nite’s Dancing with the Stars showcased the Mambo and Quick Step by the men and women stars. But does this show make the world a better place? Well that’s what Steve Guttenberg thinks. I think his enthusiasm just reflects what many of the stars enjoy about the show and includes the sentiment of the audience as well. As for me, I just like watching the show for its pure entertainment and fast pace. Does this make the world a better place? Maybe?

What I’m learning from the show is that all the stars need to bring with them the passion, fun and excitement of learning how to dance. A couple of stars are not showing me this and it certainly reflects in their dances.

Take for instance Penn Jillette. I think he was trying to be funny last nite in some of his comments and actions, but I found it more negative. He even sounded darn right mad at the judges. But Penn, your Quick Step was awful. Your footwork was atrocious and watching you dance is pure agony to me. Your score of 16 was a present to you, you should be thankful. Maybe your agony will end this week.

Then there was Monica Seles’ Mambo. It looked more like a tennis match than a dance. Monica is just not getting the idea. The judges told her to connect with the music and work on the technicality of the dances. Can she walk and chew gum at the same time? Her score was 15 and I really don’t think she’ll make it through next week.

Last nite’s three shining stars were Jason Taylor – the King of the Mambo as Len said – and Kristi “shake and bake it honey” Yamaguchi, and Mario’s Quick Step. Fantastic performances and I know they will be around for a long time.

One last word, I really like Shannon Elizabeth’s Quick Step. She has a great personality. She puts all her enthusiasm in her dances that are dynamic and fun to watch. I’m in your corner Shannon!

The other stars performed okay but since Tuesday is the elimination day for two stars here is my prediction. Penn Jillette is gone and so is Monica Seles. Just don’t have IT for Dancing with the Stars.

Until later,

Linda

Ladies night to sparkle on Dancing with the Stars

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

Dancing with the Stars last nite’s performance from the ladies shows that the men better watch out.  All the usual jitters were there and my gosh, Priscilla Presley looked either frightened or sick until after she danced. I thought this poor woman was going to have a heart attack before she danced.

But as a true professional Priscilla Presley, who is age 62 years old and looks darn good, came out with a sexy Fox Trot that put those youngster to shame. She received 24 points from the judges and I agree she did a very good dance.

I personally like Shannon Elizabeth’s cha cha cha. It was peppy and fun and oh my those long legs of hers made quite a show, didn’t it? She got 21 points from the judges.

Then Monica Sellis stepped on the dance floor and ended a sparkling nite. She was stiff and wasn’t dancing with Jonathan just trying to get through the dance. This isn’t a tennis match Monica it is dancing with a partner. So loosen up and flow with the dance and remember you do have a partner so think tennis doubles. Move as one grasshopper!

This season Dancing with the Stars has one of the oldest stars – Priscilla – has Marlee Matlin who is deaf – has Marissa who is a large young lady. It seems as though the women definitely have a disadvantage except for Kristi Yamaguchi.

Kristi dazzled, entertained and rocked on her Fox Trot with Mark. She knows how to wow the crowd and please the judges because of her experience in the skating world. Who says experience doesn’t count? Not me – I totally agree. The judges loved her dance and so did I. The judges gave her a 27 – by far the highest points for a first dance that I can remember in a long time.

Next week both the men and ladies will be Latin dancing. So guys pick it up a notch and ladies bring your best game. Unfortunately, two stars will be going home next Tuesday. I’ll predict next week after the second dance who will be leaving.

Until later,

Linda

6th Season Dancing With Stars filled with fun and enthusiasm

Monday, March 17th, 2008

Tonite’s premium 6th season of Dancing with Stars was everything it was promised. The men danced tonite and showed a lot of enthusiasm, fun, entertaintment and of course first dance jitters.

Some of the guys still need to work on technique and loosen up a bit. Some of the guys were rocking!

Mario, the R& B singer, was rocking on his cha cha cha. Looks like he’s a real contender this season. He still has to work on his foot work but I’m sure Karina will whip him into shape.

Cristian, the Spanish heart throb, looked good dancing with Cheryl, but a little stiff and he definitely needs to work on his posture.

Jason Taylor, Miami Dolphins football player, was a joy to watch in his Fox Trot with Edyta. But a little stiff, he needs to loosen up a bit.

Adam Carolla and Julianne danced the Fox Trot. Julianne has a lot of work to do with Adam. He was too stiff and his butt stuck out on many of the turns.

Steve Guttenberg and Anna performed a very entertaining Fox Trot. I don’t think Steve stopped smiling throughout the performance. His enthusiasm for Dancing with Stars showed in his dancing as well as the after interview. He loves the program and all it stands for.

Penn Jillette aka Big Foot and Kym danced the first dance, a cha cha cha, of the nite. It was entertaining but it did remind me of a magic show, a lot of illusion not enough of technique.

So here are the results from the men’s dances tonite:

Adam – 15 points

Cristian – 21 points

Mario – 24 points

Penn – 16 points

Jason – 22 points

Steve – 18 points

Tomorrow nite the women get to dance and next week everyone dances on Monday with 2 eliminations next Tuesday.

Gosh I’m happy Dancing with the Stars is back! This show is truly entertaining.

Until later,

Linda

Dancing with the Stars returns March 17th!

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

What a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day it will be when the sixth season Dancing with the Stars returns on March 17th. I’ve been getting pretty bored with watching the political debates and the primary and caucus returns for the last several months. I’m ready to put on my dancing shoes and get ready to rumba.

Here are the stars lined up for this season:

Adam Carolla – actor/comedian of “The Man Show” hope he’s serious about dancing.

Cristian de la Fuente – International film star.

Shannon Elizabeth – an actress with first two names from “That 70’s show”.

Steve Guttenberg – actor of several comedies that includes “Three Men and a Baby”, loved that movie!

Mario – just Mario – an R&B singer.

Marlee Matlin – actress who is deaf and acted in the “West Wing.”

Penn Jillette – the talking partner of Penn & Teller magic act.

Priscilla Presley – what more can I say – she was Elvis’ wife.

Monica Seles – tennis champ

Jason Taylor – football player with Miami Dolphins

Marisson Jaret Winokur – actress from “Hairspray”.

Krist Yamaguchi – well-known figure skater.

The promo promises that this season is going to be hotter, steamier and sexier with satisfaction guaranteed. The next week’s show on Tuesday the 25th is going to be a double elimination. Wow going right for the throat aren’t they?

Mark your calendars for Monday March 17th. We are going to start dancing with the stars again.

Until later,

Linda
